Remove M.2 SSD and install it in a second slot in the PC for data backup?
Hello,
My laptop broke about 2 months ago and I've since bought a new PC (self-built). The problem is that I need to save the data before I send the laptop in for repair. My question is: Will the M.2 SSD break if I remove it and put it in the second slot on my motherboard?
This happened to me once with an old Medion PC – the SSD simply died and was no longer recognized in the BIOS.

PS: Windows is also installed on the laptop SSD. Does that make a difference when connecting it to the second slot?
Normally, an M.2 is not broken by such an action.
I've read the cheap M.2 by breaking it now just a bit unsafe
No, they're gonna break when they're mistreated, eg by static charging.
What a nonsense
You can also scrape "priced" M.2 so you get to exclude KO by your own voltage
It seems to be this SSD:

Nothing should happen if you try nothing with violence.
By putting it on the motherboard it can't actually happen.
I would just not rely on the electronic (M.2)SSD for data backup, but instead rely on the good old classic HDD
Have an external can connect the 2 but only via the new pc😅
SO functional data backup: external data carrier and only attach when used
Security also given before Trojans thereby etc
That should actually work.
It's a prerequisite that you don't have a bitlocker on it.
If so, you'll need the bitlocker back up with your computer.
If you're careful, there's nothing happening.
