Travel to London for Christmas?
Hey, as with my previous question, I'm planning a few days in London. I'd like to travel there in the run-up to Christmas. Has anyone done a trip like this before and could recommend accommodations in a good location that aren't too expensive? And does anyone have any tips on what I absolutely must do?
I always use the Residences of LSE. They are supposed to be available around Christmas, but currently no free rooms are displayed.
Whether they are not yet released for the winter (students who live there have a kind of “prebooking right”) or are already covered, I don’t know, but you can definitely find out about the contact information yourself.
Of course, the rooms are VERY simple, usually with shared bathroom, for that is the location top, the WLAN reasonable, there is a large breakfast with reasonable choices and the possibility to use a shared kitchen.
Carr-Saunders is, for example, super-central, you can easily walk to the British Museum or to the big shopping streets, Bankside Hall is on the Southbank right next to the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe.
What do you have to do? Nothing! What can you do? Everything you care about. Read through various guides and filter for things that really appeal to you. If you miss out on the tourist classics, you have more time (and money) for your very personal highlights.
For a first overview, you can still book for about 40 pounds (1 day) or 50 pounds (2 days) hop on hop off tours, with which you can go as well as any famous landmark and get off as you wish and explore it more closely. If you use this cleverly, you save the normal ticket (the Visitor Oyster would be recommended), which means that the rather heavy price is again relativized.
Many museums are free, which makes them interesting for short “just look” visits. Other things are so expensive that you can do without it. Also inform yourself about waiting times, the snake before Mdme Tussauds probably costs almost as much time as the visit itself…
In addition to more or less well-known musicals, a film in the original can be a good choice for the evening.
I always find the “free” Strawberry Tours on all possible topics. Of course you pay something “voluntary” at the end, but it is nice to be able to determine the price yourself.
PS: If you want to eat cheap, you can also use MealDeals, which offers almost every supermarket, in addition to the ToogoodToGo app. Instead of the calorie bomb classic (sandwich, Chips/ Crisps, Cola), there are also healthier variants (salat/sushi, fruit, smoothie/coffee/water or the like) for 4-5 pounds.
You can also travel anywhere Filling drinking water bottlesso you are not dependent on expensive “Touri-Limo”.
My tip: Don’t let yourself be puked. Let the city look at you instead of just catching a ToDo list! Have fun.
