Pure silk? Or a blend?
Hey!
I got a fabric from a theater prop and wanted to ask if anyone here can tell from the pictures whether it is pure silk or maybe which type 😅
When you rub the fabric it gets warm and I also did the burn test on a small piece; it smells like burnt hair👍 …and I also think I hear a certain crunching sound when I rub it 😉
Now the question is whether it could still be a silk-cotton/linen mix, for example 🤔
Thanks for answering 👍 Have a nice day!
I can’t imagine pure silk. Not only that this fabric would be unimaginable expensive, you could not start much with it.
It could be artificial silk or simply mercerized cotton.
Hey, sea hero. Thanks for the quick answers 👍
Even if this “burnt hair smell” occurs? Is also a few years old (at least 10 years)…was possibly. cheaper? 👀
Burned hair does not really suggest silk. That’s not a coat.
Silk is especially difficult to process and very sensitive. I can’t really imagine that this was related to the theatre. They don’t have time for hand washing and constant ironing.
Will Bourette? 🤔
Is the silk really real? How do I recognize real silk? – Silk hair rubber
This is simply not true. Of course, silk smells like burned hair, you’ll be taught as a tailor in the first year at the vocational school. And hard to process silk is also not, not with the depicted, solid quality. Hand wash? Does it have to be washed? You don’t know what purpose the pictured part served.
Purely from the look, I assume that it could actually be silk and your burning sample suggests it. If it smells like burned hair, it is in any case an animal fiber. The question of the price does not arise here, the part is in any case excerpted and is not taxed again at the levy.
You can ignite a warp and a weft thread separately, a mixed fabric with silk would then either have the chain or the weft of another material. There might be a few centimeters of fabric on it, but you know more.
Synthesis melts into a small bone and smells ” after burned plastic (sic) “. But what I don’t think it is. You have already stated that it smells like animal.
Btw – mercerized cotton looks completely different and that you can’t start with pure silk “I think, with all respect, a rumor.
