Refuse surgery?

I have scoliosis. I haven't been to the doctor in two years because he always made decisions against my will. Three years ago, I had 25°, and two and a half years ago, it was 38°. At 40°, surgery is actually required. I always canceled appointments because I figured if they didn't have an X-ray of my back, they wouldn't be able to take any further measures. Now I'm wondering what will happen if it turns out to be over 40°. Can I refuse surgery? Is that possible if I'm only 16? Can a doctor even put me under the knife against my will?

Even if you’re not full-year, you can refuse a medical measure. That even goes if your parents agree. The prerequisite is that you have a certain maturity and can balance the consequences of your decision. Usually 16-year-olds are awarded this maturity. Even if this was to be different with you, you would hardly be forced against your declared will and, if necessary, your counter-force to an operation, and yet you would be put into anaesthesia with violence. That would not be allowed…

But hello,

You decide yourself and if you are 16
not to be operated.
How does it come to the diagnosis or does it not
X-ray/MRI recording?

You’re still in growth, maybe you could at least
even what to do against the causes to make slight improvements
to achieve because your problem arises now.

e.g. not always on one side Sleep?
This means a continuous misconception, wherein
usually falls through the spine between breast and LWS.
Try to change regularly, before all ‘back sleep
would be good!

Don’t stress the body unilaterally?

Have you ever done it with exercises, like chimneys or
physiotherapy tried.
Have you ever got a corset?

What have you done so far to improve – please
also at the cause – e.g. permanent misconception in
Avoid sleeping area.

There are physiotherapy for Skoliosen after Schroth; some clinics also work according to the concept. it is possible to improve this way. Otherwise there is thorn – Breuss and osteopathy etc. .

If you are a minor, your elders have the power of decision, not the doctor. Talk to them!

You do not have to operate Skoliosen from a certain degree. These are only guidelines and recommendations that vary according to doctor and clinic. The patient is decisive. Not every scoliosis is the same. The complaint is of course also important and the forecast. With such a large intervention, it is usually not insignificant that the patient wants to do so… if you are mentally opposed, every little stumbling stone is a huge drama…

I’d recommend looking for another doctor. Zb Dr Kay Steffan in Bad Sobernheim. He is very specialized in juvenile scalpioses and does not send everyone to Op. It’s just what’s going on. Otherwise, think about an op and other possibilities. Don’t ignore scoliosis! Try to find out what’s best for you. Get other opinions. Find a doctor who supports you on your way. Bring your parents to your side.

No one can be forced into medical treatment.
