“Reduction of the variable” (without “n”) or “reduction of the variable” (with “n”)?
My lecturer in the Software Tools and Software Engineering module writes: “The position of the operator determines when the increase or decrease of the variable is calculated.”
Did he omit an "n"? Dative or accusative?
Genitive, neither Dativ nor battery. :
And according to Duden, “Variable” can be used both with and without -n.

I would have the words Variable and Constant preferably weakly declining (i.e.n in the gene/dat Sg, your example is of course gene), but I must admit that you read it very often differently, and in similar formations as Determinant or Resolvents I also use the strong declination (without -n in the Sg), although they are actually quite parallel.
