Rebuild cage, add level?
My sister would like to have rats and therefore wants my old aviary. It's 52x79x95 (132) cm high. It's even bigger, but it has a compartment at the bottom for storing things like food.
Now we'd need to add another level in the middle, and neither of us knows how to do that. So, logically, you first take the measurements to determine the right size, and then how do you attach them? So, in addition to the large level, you'd need two smaller ones, one at the very top and one between the bottom and the new large one. Is it best to connect these with ladders?
My idea was to sell the cage and have her get a new one. Although that's actually nonsense.

We assume you mean the first measurements. I'll tell you why it's not kind. The minimum width fits so, the minimum length of 80 cm is reduced and the 0.5 square meter (base area, not running surface per pair!) anyway, because it would be only about 0.4 square meter). The height at 95 cm would also be too low. If you were to put in 3 floors (Floor+2 more), which is the minimum requirements and becomes scarce with the 95 cm SEEHR, since the floors must have at least 30 cm distance, maximum 50 cm, best 40 cm, the running surface would still be at 1.2 m2 which is 0.3 m2 (minimum running surface (LxB of the cagex number of floors) from 3 rats, also counts for 2!!!).
And pairing is animal cruelty and can come very quickly to bite wounds within one night (has only seen a post where a rat was completely broken in the night by the sister), with 3 stances it comes more often to violent disputes than from the 4th stance (but it becomes art-friendly). Couple keeping and individual posture can lead to severe behavior (and also to death) as they cannot form a pack and unite. In the 3's attitude, they can make a pack, but not a real one, which is why they cannot really live out their social behavior. Only from the 4th position can they prove this.

The longer side should never fall below 80 cm and the shorter never 50 cm. Minimum height 1m, grid spacing maximum 1.2 cm, so that even thin, female young animals cannot squeeze out. Floor distance at least 30 max 50 cm. The cage needs at least 3 full floors. Base area (LxW of cage: never u 0.5 sq.m), tread at least 1.8 sq.m. for 4 rats (consists of LxB of floors x number of floors. For running surface and floor space ALWAYS take the internal dimensions! At least 2 sides of the cage must be completely open (contained of grids).
The Savic Suit models are good (and the cage Maximus). All 3 cages require at least 2 more full days! The xl is suitable for Max. 9 rats and the 95 Double and Maximus are suitable for Max 5 rats

I would measure it and cut it in the building market a plate for it. I would fix this with angles, screws and a thick nut with a washer so that you can fix it on the grid with a large washer.
