Depends on the genre. Sometimes in the “real” world and sometimes I think of something. I also make a fictional island or city in a real country. Fictive worlds rarely because I am uncreative

To the real world, I like to consider it easier to work with something that is already there. So a little less to think about.

There are already fictional places where even fictional figures (mostly) experience thoughtful. But my stories are also so knitted that they could be real.

When writing, I prefer to immerse myself in the fictional world, the real world seems to me too common.

Fictive, the real world is boring as well as I suck in geography.

You’re just freer. There are no fetters through historical, geographical or political fetters.
