Raid controller in SINGLE mode, danger?

Hello,

Can a defective RAID controller in SINGLE mode make a hard drive/the data unreadable?

A bad/defective RAID controller can render data unusable in RAID 1 mode. I have a cheap RAID system where, according to reviews, the RAID enclosure has often destroyed the hard drive partition. My question is: If I use the two drives in the enclosure (ICY Box IB-RD2253-U31) individually, i.e., in single mode, is there still a risk of data loss due to the RAID controller?

Thank you and kind regards!
