Wheel bearing noise?

Servus, is it true that if a wheel bearing is defective, for example on the left side, you only hear it when turning right and vice versa?

Or can it also happen that the left wheel bearing makes a noise when turning left?

Hello

there are wheel bearings that become “laut/er” when worn under load, there are wheel bearings that are “laut/er” under relief (but both sounds different) and there are even adjustable wheel bearings that are readjusted when worn/running noise. These types came out of the “mode” after 1995 because for mechatronics the process is too “complex” and if you can turn them too tight then 1000-end KM later tear off the stub axle (but before the wheel bearing makes noise).

There are also

  • Drive shafts which generate noises at large bend angles thus usually at maximum spring-in or out.
  • Tyres which, during the deflection under load rubbing or knatching, are usually adjusted and/or the transverse link bearing is worn.

You can’t exclude anything, but you’d be rather uncommon.

It is difficult to judge from the driver’s seat what the
Wheel bearing makes noise.
It does not necessarily have to do with right or left curves.
You change them in pairs in front or back.

Both can occur .
