Rabbits digging in the open air?

Helloooo

I need your help with a rabbit issue. I want to enclose part of my garden with a small fence to create an enclosure for my rabbits.

Their enclosure is already about 6 square meters, but there are a lot of things lying around, like little houses and the like. So they can't really run fast or let off steam without bumping into each other.

But unfortunately, the problem is my mother. She won't allow me to have this free-roaming space. She says she doesn't want the rabbits digging there (we once had them outside their enclosure, and they dug there too), and she doesn't want the garden to be full of holes.

So my question would be how can I prevent them from putting holes in their freewheel.

Their enclosure has stone slabs, so I want to put a digging box there. Do you think if they can let off steam there, they won't dig so much in the garden?

They're still very young and unneutered, but they'll be neutered on December 20. Do you think that will make a difference?

Please only serious answers.

Or please don't write "it's normal for them to dig." I know it's normal, but I want to avoid them making holes in the ground in their outdoor area. Instead, I want them to indulge their urge to dig somewhere else.

No, you won't. I know myself so well. with a simple fence it is also unfortunately not done. he has to get quite deep into the earth so that they don't budge. Take some of the houses out. depending on how many you have, you can do something there and try it with hammocks. They can't bump and love our seas the things. but deliberately wash regularly, otherwise it becomes unhygienic.

Hello,

I can understand that you want to offer them more space. But that's just the stress you always do from the run-out to the garden. You can't say where they prefer so you have to forget that. But you can also put a bit in the run-out so make a few houses out. There is enough one house per animal and there in 6sqm only 2 to a maximum of 3 animals need to fit not so many houses in there. I have an 8m cage with 2 rabbits and I have left 3 houses and a bought cage of day and night. I have to say they're still 7sqm. So how many animals do you have? How many houses?

LG I hope I could help.

Or you do tunnels or hammocks in the cage

I know that's normal, but I'd like to avoid having the floor in the open run with holes, but they're supposed to live their lust somewhere else.

You human rabbit too much. They just dig wherever they want. They don't think "Oh, cool – a digging box! Now we leave the lawn alone!"
Rather on the contrary, then the budding box will remain unused, as the meadow is much more beautiful for the tomb.

Why does your mother have a problem with budding the rabbits in their enclosure? The rest of the garden can remain as it is.

Then you should leave it completely. Rabbits are very area-related and this amount is unnecessary stress.

Hello

I'd undermine the cradle. You'll have to put wire mesh on the ground and pour on it again. That's necessary because Marder or Fuchs can dig through it.

Look at my answer the first link…If the grass is higher then this is also okay for the paws. If there's some more straw over it 😉

It should be about protection, you don't want your rabbits to die. If you have a 6 m2 walk then the many cottages will clear away and buy a big one.

I'd say that. Otherwise, use more tunnels or "pedestals" which are not so bulky;)

Hello Anonym4747q,

there are grids that can be placed on the ground or can also attach a piece far below the earth. They couldn't buddle anymore 😉

Here is an example: https://www.omlet.de/shop/kaninchen/zubeh%C3%B6r_f%C3%BCr_kaninchen/22018/unterbodengitter_f%Cr_outdoorgehege__6_elements/

There are also so-called digging boxes that you could put in their normal stable:

R&D

you can then fill it with sand (for rabbits). However, you can also easily replicate this with wood for a weather-resistant alternative.

In addition, the Fellpopos tunnels and caves like cork, wood, pasture or also fabric. This can also be rebuilt with hazelnut sticks and wire by threading the sticks. Cork tunnels and tunnels from tree trunks are available in every animal specialist trade. You can find a tunnel here. I have the self and the instep very durable and can also be clean well: https://www.fressnapf.de/p/trixie-kuscheltunnel-fuer-smalltiere-1028775/

I still recommend the variant of pasture. It lasts a long time and can also be snapped. My pigs love it! https://www.zooplus.de/shop/natur/161034

I hope that helps and to categorize: after that they will be quieter for normal. I can't judge it because I've already been neutered.

Here again the boron and disadvantages are listed. Your mother is convinced 😉
