Question for the older generation (40+) Parties?

What was it like for you back when there was no Spotify, with music at parties?

In the 90s and early 2000s, my parents' parties usually played oldies or pop music. For example, Uwe Hübner's German Hit Mix. And when the CD was finished, it started again from the beginning, or another one was put in and left to play. The same thing happened at friends' and acquaintances' parties.

Then at some point there were mp3s and it was still the same, whoever invited people had probably created an elaborate playlist and it played the whole evening.

I don't remember there ever being any debates about the music.

Today I'm married, my family's three times as big, we have YouTube and Spotify, and everyone has something to complain about when it comes to music. Do this or that, do Layla, do "Hotdog am Hafen," do dance music, do Helene… Everyone wants to do their own thing instead of being led through the evening.

And after the 5th time Layla and the train without brakes, people still get most excited when I choose the songs myself depending on the situation and sometimes play something that nobody expects.

Is music streaming a blessing or a curse for you? What was it like for you before, and which do you prefer?

It wasn’t different from today. That’s why you’re worried about someone who knows music and then keeps the guests decent with music.

Since almost my entire circle of friends has a compatible taste, this is not a problem. In principle, however, the host gives the music(direction). Then we’ll only have the music freaks with EXAKT with the same taste, then another one can also like the playlist 🙂

Oh, and at family celebrations or similar, oldies are usually the smallest common denominator.

Addendum: by the way, I could probably not be seriously friends with people who call Layla or Helene. Music is at least a bit of a life setting for me. And then, at family celebrations of me, this will never come out of the boxes here, and in those of others, “I have to go through.”

There came the music of CDs. I remember the hit mix. It was really great.

I remember the bars in our fire department on our Kirmes. There the DJs had suitcases full of CDs or everyone brought something from home. Heutzutags runs there ne playlist and the DJ sits somewhere next and cleanses.

I used to think that better. The music was more diverse and not everywhere the same ballerman Gedöns.

This “internet music show” is a curse! *laugh

When the “children” are with us, they turn on your smartphone first, connect to the TV – because the music system is connected with it – and then comes “fearable” music … XD

And the music is not even heard through… the song runs 2 min and then: “Oh, the song is also horny!” Zack! Click! Touch! … next song – and so it goes for hours! 🙁

We used to hear what the host had and set up. You didn’t go crazy! His party, his music!

In the 90s this has changed somewhat, but not elemental. There were also CDs. They were also played… what was really good, because CDs were expensive, the collection was small and in the acquaintance they had about the same music taste.

There were different parties! Some have celebrated more, danced more with others, more drunk with others, somehow everything at the same time! XD

Yeah, there were always plumbers who wanted to tell everyone what is good music taste and they are the total musicians. They’ve been annoying so far at all times.

Otherwise I had (when I earned money myself) a CD player that took 3 CDs and one could press a button that was called “Shuffle”, then the music was not always played in the same order.

I always had a good friend who made music for weeks before a party. He thought a lot about it and made it with a logigk (building voice …). The CDs (formerly cassettes) were numbered and we had great music all night. After that he was awarded most and asked for copies of the CDs or cassettes.

My dream was always a separate ghetto blaster as my best friend had. My father made this crazy because I borrowed him a lot. He was worried about the expensive piece and that I could break it. For Christmas, I should get my own. I’m very excited to pick up paper. It was a ugly, rotten cheap part, in which the cassettes were already exhibiting at the probleauf. I was ungrateful and sad. Only the radio was to be used. After that, I still left my friend’s secret and my “carrying” flew home. My father’s comment: “Well, we didn’t throw money out for one of those expensive things, you don’t use it anyway.”
