Question about physics/watts/power?
I have a problem whose answer I unfortunately can't figure out. Does anyone know how to solve it?
For a test subject on a bicycle ergometer, the oxygen consumption can be estimated at a set wattage. What is the oxygen consumption if the test subject is performing a power of 200W on the ergometer? The gross efficiency is assumed to be 20%.
3L/min should be the answer.
Many thanks in advance!
That's one biochemical sports medicine question, not a physical one.
There is also a lack of information, so it is not easy to answer.
You should know the process is precisely considered when energy is produced from O2 and hydrocarbons of the body and whose "heat value" is known (as in the case of the combustion of, for example, 1 molecule of methane CH4 with oxygen).
Glucose, fatty acids, ATP? Or just a model process?
