How to recognize a mercury thermometer?
I recently found a very old thermometer and I'm not sure whether it contains mercury or not. Is there a way I can easily check? Thanks.
How can I get rid of scars AS FAST AS POSSIBLE with a HOME REMEDY? I don't see the point in spending €10-15 on scar cream that's only enough for a few scars… (My whole leg is covered in scars)
I was supposed to get my period on Friday, but this time it's different…. I've had brown discharge since Friday, like after my period, like clotted mucus-like blood. I've had this continuously since Friday, and once or twice there was a tiny bit of blood (about 2ml). However, I have all the symptoms of a…
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask you how I can gain weight and how. I'm 12 years old, weigh 31 kg and am 1.50 m tall. According to Google, I'm slightly underweight and I'd like to gain weight because almost no pants fit me. 35 kg would be perfect, but whenever I try to eat…
Hello, According to pain therapy, I have to take Novalgin three times a day because of my chronic back pain. Since I drink up to 3-4 cups of coffee a day (mainly latte & cappuccino…) I wonder if this is compatible with the tablets. Should I wait 2 hours before taking the coffee or the…
How old is the thermometer? Is a manufacturer or brand name on it? If the thermometer is older than 35 years, finger away, could be mercury. However, there are other metallic alloys which are also liquid at room temperature, you do not see it. Normally you can see it at the melting point, which is at -38° with mercury. The other alloys are usually liquid far beyond this. But in the narrow glass tube you can’t see it right.
If the liquid is silver, then can be mercury, otherwise not.
If so, you can possibly estimate the weight, then only a much more complicated analysis helps.

What’s “very old”? For a long time, the non-toxic Galinstan has been used as a mercury substitute.
If the temperate owl shimmers silvery, it is guaranteed mercury!
Wrong. Galinstan has been used for many years.
He asked for mercury!
Yeah, and you say, if it shimmers silvery, it’s mercury. Galinstan also shimmers silvery, you genius.
