If you go to a self-publisher such as Books on Demand, you will pay €19.80. It also contains the ISBN. If you do not want to book any further service such as editorate and cover design, then no further costs will arise. Say, all you care about yourself, how to rework and format your text, design and upload a cover, you can do everything there with the program and don’t have to pay anything. It also takes you through the whole process, with everything you need and attention. Advertise and distribute your book, of course, you have to try yourself.

It would be different if your manuscript is so great (but rather Schalke Meister) that it can land at a big publisher. This is a long hard way, but then the publisher pays everything, takes care of everything and you get even fees. But as a beginner, you should forget that. And if you’re a beginner, I advise you absolutely from print cost supplements that print a cellar full of books for you for thousands of euros that you never get sold.

submit and publish his book to a publisher

That this works is as likely as a six in the lottery.
Serious publishers have no interest in books of unknown, new (hobby) authors, who are not yet able to demonstrate any experiences and successes.

You can do your book to publish as Selfpublishing Book / eBook, e.g. via portals such as:

  • Book on Demand
  • epubli
  • Neobooks
  • Bookrix
  • Amazon Kindle KDP

Whether you actually find readers/buyers who pay money for your book, that is of course another question considering the huge offer of self-publishing books.
Many self-publishing authors offer their books as eBook even free to get even readers.
For example, Amazon offers over 50,000 free self-publishing eBooks.

One more Warning:
Be careful not to one of the fraudulent pseudo-disposition ! They take advantage of the situation that so many authors desperately seek a publishing house, unobtrusively and shock inexperienced authors.
They emerge as a reputable publisher and make the authors great (false) promises about the (probably) expected success of the (probably) supertollen book.
Finally, the author is zoomed through hidden cost cases in the small print of the contract; the book never comes into the book trade and in the end the author remains at high costs (in the 5-digit range) and boxes full of books that no one wants.

You need a cover to which you have the right, you need to organize and finance Lektorat and Korrektorat, and then you don’t have to worry about marketing.

This platform helps in self-publishing, then you don’t have to worry about printing

Some hobby authors are hidden in such a way that, for example, they go to print cost supplement publishers on glue and can be printed palette-wise books that they can never sell. Then there are quickly 10,000 € in the basement and spoil.
