Programs to another hard drive?
Hello.
Today I bought an M2 SSD for my operating system. I also bought a 2 TB SATA SSD for gaming. I had another 250 GB Samsung SATA SSD from before.
I now simply have Windows on the M2, my programs on the 250GB SSD and my games on the 2TB SSD.
But now I've noticed that almost every program (Steam, Malwarebytes, EpicGames,…) despite being successfully installed on the 250 GB SSD has created one or another folder on the M2 SSD, i.e. where the operating system is installed.
The “main program” is on the 250GB SATA SSD, but a folder with a few files of the respective program is still on the M2 SSD with the operating system.
Does it even make sense to install the programs on a separate SSD? Or could I have installed them directly on the M2 SSD?
Yeah, that’s normal.
Remember, because the largest storage space occupancy should be on the extra SSD.
All programs, Games, Drivers on C:/
All user data, images, photos, documents, movies etc. on D:/
In most cases, C:/ is the fastest record, as it makes sense programs (which are sometimes gigantic today, such as, for example, Genshin Impact with the latest patch over 16GB). When reinstalling, you can easily get Format C:/ and all your (personal) user data will remain on D:/. In any case, installed programs/games on D:/ would no longer work after a new installation (register, shared files, etc.) so it is impediable to install them on D:/.
This has been proven for 25 years, from time to time a new installation has not yet damaged any system, since 100GB hard disk storage (data waste, old drivers etc.) are released again. 😁
So Steam shouldn’t create any files on another hard drive. The Rockstar Launcher installs the social club on C – yes. But otherwise I don’t know about any programs that do that.
What happened is that put almost every program in the document folder and in AppData causes that is so determined from Windows. These are usually only small parts – it is worth installing on other hard drives.
That’s true with Steam. It was just an example. But as good as anything else does the same. (Wargaming Launcher, RockstarGames Launcher, GOG,…)
So my GOG has nix installed
Yes, if you set everything right during installation you get the launcher also on another hard drive.
We’re talking about the games?
