Want to see the profile picture of a blocked person on Instagram for a short time?

A few weeks ago, I was blocked on Instagram during my on-off dating phase. I saw his profile picture for the first few days, but then it disappeared, as is typical. I noticed that whenever I post a story, his profile picture suddenly reappears. It stays that way for a day or two, and then it disappears again (he's still in my chat history, which is why I can still find his account). But when I click on his profile, I'm still blocked.

So my question is: Is it possible that he keeps unblocking me for a short time (I think to see my story) and that's why his profile picture is displayed again, but then disappears after a while because he then blocks me again?

(If he blocks me immediately after viewing my story, I won't see that he has seen my stories)

Usually, if the blocked person remains blocked, their profile picture will disappear after a while.
