Problems changing accounts?

I recently changed my bank details (from one savings bank to another because I moved).
My old account is currently still active and is scheduled to be closed on November 29, 2024. My new account has already been set up.
I was just in the store and wanted to pay by card (using my old checking account), but it didn't work because my card had been blocked. I didn't understand this, as my account hadn't been closed yet and I'd continued to use it normally. My account also had enough funds, so that couldn't be the problem, and the PIN was correct.
Everything works in online banking, I was able to transfer money normally and everything except use the card.
Can anyone help me with this? Thank you very much.
It may be good that the old bank has already blocked the card. Reason: as card payments are often charged later, it could otherwise happen that payments will be made if the account has already been resolved. If possible, it should be agreed.
