What to do during an internship?

Hello everyone,

I have a question: Does anyone know how to get an internship in architecture if you haven't studied yet and have no experience in the field?

I'd like to do an internship to better prepare for my architecture studies and strengthen my application. Unfortunately, I've called many architectural firms, but most are only looking for interns with previous experience.

Does anyone know of any opportunities or places in Berlin where such an internship is possible without prior experience? And do you think it's even feasible?

Thank you in advance!

Moin,

Many small architectural offices do not have time/light on interns to whom they cannot give work directly. You may have more success with larger offices. Then perhaps the office is not right in front of the door, but you will have to live with it. For an internship, this is certainly usable. Take a look around in Berlin and get to the larger architectural offices. For example, I just asked Chat gpt about architecture offices in Berlin with more than 10 employees. This was the answer:

In Berlin there are several architectural offices with more than 10 employees. Here are some examples:

Graft – An internationally active architectural office that implements projects in the fields of architecture, urban planning and interior design.

Kuehn Malvezzi – A renowned office focused on architecture and urban planning and known for its modern and sustainable designs.

Bartlett School of Architecture – The Berlin office that originally started with a small team but has now reached a considerable size.

David Chipperfield Architects Berlin – The office of British architect David Chipperfield, known for its concise, minimalist architecture and realized projects worldwide.

Zanderroth Architekten – An office that specialises in architecture, interior design and urban design and has implemented several major projects in Berlin.

Behnisch Architekten – With offices in several cities worldwide, this office is one of the leading architectural offices and also has a large presence in Berlin.

LRO Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei – An architectural and urban planning office specialising in innovative, sustainable architecture projects.

Henn Architekten – An international architecture office with an office in Berlin, known for demanding, sustainable and technical architecture.

Good architectural offices are not afraid to accept interns. You just have to get ahead with enough offices.

Last but not least, to get a place to study architecture, you don’t have to do an internship. If you’re really behind it, and you’re getting a couple of colleges, you’ll find a place for yourself. Many universities and universities award the places, for example, according to results of suitability tests. The least are still going to NC or special school services.

Just keep trying. You can also ask for support from the Employment Agency or ask for support from educational institutions. They often have contact details because they also provide graduates.
