Portable WiFi amplifier?

Is there something that I can use to connect to a device without a LAN to make the WiFi range larger? I'm going to Sweden and staying in a hostel with only WiFi. I want to buy a repeater for it. I could plug it into a socket and then I would have to log in via my mobile phone or iPad and set it up. I will only get the password and SSID and will not be allowed to access their router.

Is there anything you can recommend that will help me?

You can use virtually any repeater. There are also those you can operate via USB, for example, on a Power Bank if you are looking for this. Otherwise, these are actually all "portable" as much as you can take them there.
