Popping noise when downshifting?
Hello. I have a Golf Mk4 2.0 with 116 hp. I installed a sports rear muffler. Ever since I got it, there's been a banging noise coming from the rear exhaust when I downshift. (I downshift into fourth at 70, into third at 50, etc.) My question is where this banging is coming from and whether it's damaging to the engine or anything else? Best regards.
Hi,
It's just noise that's a nuisance for those around you and you get scared as a pedestrian too when a vehicle suddenly misfires, ie makes an unexpectedly loud bang, and that does have a certain health impact because it releases stress hormones and maybe causes your blood pressure to rise briefly, etc. That of course also depends on the volume.
best regards
Ask the manufacturer and the workshop that installed it
Misfire, some program their car specifically for it^^
But why do I have them? I mean, it sounds really cool, but a lot of people say it's harmful, so I'd be interested to know. 🙂
No, it isn't. It doesn't affect the exhaust to that extent.

It's called a misfire and he doesn't give a damn.

This is due to the wrong exhaust, most likely
