Pilot’s license over 66?

Do you think it's crazy or irresponsible to get a pilot's license for motorized ultralight aircraft at the age of 66?

In my youth, I was a glider pilot, but was banned by the Stasi because of my relatives from the West. I've been paragliding for the past few years. Unfortunately, I now have to rest my legs, which serve as the landing gear on slopes.

I just want to fly myself!

That depends on it.

Are you ready to review yourself every year or two years for your own responsibility? Or even once a year as an optician to check the visibility. I don’t know how the conditions for leisure flyers are. But to protect others, it’s a good idea. But that’s what my ex did at the time with 20 to not endanger anyone. In addition, you usually make the “annual TÜV” from a certain age, as my father says. Also ask yourself if you’re ready to fly only as a flyer if it doesn’t work anymore and if you’d get the bill.

If you can answer everything with yes, I’d do it right away.

Great. I’m only very careful with driving licences, because my grandpa doesn’t want to leave his car with 90 and his car still had until three months ago. Only when he had unfortunately injured two people, he saw that he is no longer able to carry a car.

Then I wish you a lot of fun and enjoy your flights and views.

Then do it, maybe you’ll find a younger friend at the airfield who’s ready to take you if you can’t fly anymore. Then you still have the view. And I didn’t think about health. My grandpa has grown to 67 every day at my parents’ house. He was still fitter than some 30 years old (I still don’t know how he managed some of it)

My uncle did this at a similar age.

I honestly find it impressive and beautiful that you have such a dream. I was thinking about driving a car on your question. It has been shown that the reaction rate at the age decreases significantly. This is the same as a driver but with long-term driving practice. Now I don’t know how quickly you should be in such a plane;) and the compensation by long flying would also be missing. Just ask the doctor who makes the check, other pilots if possible… If there’s nothing to do with safety, I think you should fulfill your dream (as soon as possible):)

Nice to see you! 😊 I’ve only done 1x parasailing so far – was absolutely great!

So my first thought was that it was a little late. But it is also a good sign that you can also reflect on it. I don’t think if there’s anything about health and mentality, that’s okay. My doubts were more likely that under 66 I would introduce myself to a fragile old man who hardly manages to get on the plane alone.

Then I can let you fly good conscience;)

If you’re still fit enough for it: just go! Dude is just a number, you shouldn’t let yourself be banned. And with your experience, you know what you’re getting into, I think!

If you want this and don’t talk about it healthily, it’s great

If you’re in the position, I don’t find it unnoticed. The question is more what flight school would take you, I think.

If they take you, there’s nothing left. You can only say “good flight!”
