Very good for beginners are Sexl/Raab volumes 1 and 2 and possibly also Sexl/Raab/Streeruwitz volume 3

The volumes 'Berkeley's Physics Course' are more detailed and contain a little more mathematics.

Especially at the beginning, take plenty of time to really understand the formulas, namely how they were arrived at and why they are the way they are. For example, why we divide by 2 or multiply by pi. Once you've truly understood this for a few formulas, you'll be able to actually read the formulas and even derive many of them. And you'll also be more aware of when a formula is wrong.

We learned with the Berkeley back then. I have fond memories of it.

I like Rebhan's work, especially the chapter on mechanics, which is well-written and understandable. Only basic knowledge of mathematics is required, and everything is explained in detail—no "it's easy to see…" etc.

For me, the book is perfect for both learning and reviewing and is neither too shallow nor too mathematical.
