Pet rat infestation?
I'm getting pet rats soon and wanted to know what the best way is to keep pests like fleas or mites away from them. Is there a treatment for pet rats that you can regularly drip onto their necks or mix into their food? Like you would with dogs, for example? Or are there other preventative measures besides keeping them in a clean cage?
Hello 🙋
If you don't take the animals with you, you can mite or the like almost only get new animals in the household or from. Infested feed/scatter come.
You can't prevent using means, but only treat if you already have the attack.
Early detection:
Regularly make feces, paradocs is relatively cheap and good. So in new animals and before integrations
Weekly rats TÜV
Watch every day at the runout and if the rats are on your lap you can briefly look at the fur.
In case of vulnerabilities, observe the course. In case of deterioration, visit veterinarian. At the age, it's normal when they get calmer and sleep more. Until then you should know your animals well enough to arrange it 😉
Prevention:
Pay attention to hygiene (as Lmorg said)
You can also freeze new items, feed and scatter (24h-48h should be enough, in case of seizures 2 weeks
Questions just ask 🙂

I don't suppose you want to drag the animals out with you? Because most of the risks are lurking, which is why I would strongly advise.
The apartment should also be clean when the rats get out. Suck dust and/or wipe regularly moist (IF with cleaning agent, which is not absolutely necessary, then take one that does not leave such an extreme scent).
Otherwise, a clean cage is of course the be-all and end-all^^
When you get out, you should wash your hands before you touch the animals. Too much to overdo it, of course, should not be done with cleanliness/purity.
And what is important for rats also is ENORM: never put anywhere, where they only get a light train. Unfortunately, they are very, very susceptible to pneumonia and they usually run fatal.
I don't know anything about drops or something for prevention (which doesn't mean). The best prevention, however, is – as mentioned – a clean environment and the right diet. So also regularly offer fresh fruit and vegetables, also suitable fresh herbs are okay. Please inform exactly about the fruits and vegetables that you can feed rats. The noses are not picky but sensitive
Thank you for your detailed answer. No, I don't take the little rodents. And a clean environment is of course natural. Because of what they can eat and many others I've already informed myself, but I don't think you'll learn. I had some as a kid, but my parents had the rudder in my hand. My attitude at that time was not the best, the more I want to do everything right now.
