Permanently deactivate/bypass Amazon one-time password for delivery?

For a few months now, Amazon has been requiring a stupid password to accept items worth over €100 or so. Of course, you can't use it to specify a location where the package should be left if you're not at home.

I received the code at 9 a.m. today, when, of course, no one was home. The postman rang the bell at 11 a.m. and took the package back. It now says online that delivery will be attempted again on the next business day; I have no idea if it will be after 5 p.m. this time.

This kind of thing just pisses me off incredibly when, like pretty much every other parcel service, they don't give customers the option of dropping off deliveries at their own risk. Unfortunately, Amazon support wasn't very helpful either.

Does anyone have any experience getting around this system? Sticking a note with the code on the farm gate won't work because you only get it an hour in advance. However, I've heard that parcel delivery companies can also enter your phone number instead. So, would it work if I simply stick a note with my phone number on the gate?

And yes, I do this at my own risk and I am aware that Amazon cannot be held liable for any losses in this case.
