PCIe 4.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD in B450 Pro4 einbauen?

Moin,

Mein PC:

Prozessor: Ryzen 5 3600

Graka: Radeon RX 5700

Mainboard: AsRock b450 pro4

Bei der SSD handelt es sich um eine: Crucial P5 Plus 1TB PCIe 4.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 Gaming Solid State Laufwerk, bis zu 6600MB/s – CT1000P5PSSD8

Hello

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450%20Pro4/index.de.asp#Specification

It is available on the B450 Board only maximum PCIe 3.0 support. However, since PCIe is up and down compatible, you can not only use PCIe 3.0 extension cards, but also PCIe 1.0, 1.1. 2.0 and 4.0 extension cards. These are all in principle compatible with the motherboard.

However, if PCIe version is not identical, the data rate, i.e. the data transmission speed, can be restricted via the PCIe interface, which may have an influence on the performance of the PCIe extension cards used.

Your B450 motherboard has two M.2 slots. In the first M.2 slot, M.2 SSD’s are supported with up to PCIe 3.0 x4 speed and in the second M.2 slot with up to PCIe 3.0 x2 speed.

You can also use M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD’s in these M.2 slots, but they are braked to below 4000MB/s in the first M.2 slot in accordance with the supported PCIe Standard and the number of PCIe Lanes used.

So you will not be able to use the speed of a correspondingly fast M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD on your motherboard. This is why you can also save the surcharge for such SSD and use a M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD, which is also sufficient and is also cheaper.

Hello,

the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB PCIe 4.0 NAND can be pushed in.
And she’ll work too, and not bad at all.

Unfortunately support your Ryzen 5 3600 (together with the ASRock B450 Pro4),

only PCIe 3.

This M.2 NVMe SSD would be somewhat overdressed.

A slightly cheaper Crucial P3 1TB M.2 PCIe 3 NVMe would be more than sufficient.

Unless you want to use the NVMe later in another PC. Then it makes sense.

You won’t notice a speed difference.
