PC monitor not working?

Hey guys, I'm really at the verge of despair…

I switched from a console to a PC. I don't know a thing about it, but I got the PC working. Problem: the monitor isn't showing any signs of life. I bought a new Acer Nitro ED340CU monitor.
The power cable is in, as is the HDMI cable. However, there's no sign of lifeā€”no light anywhere, and no picture. Did I perhaps forget something, or is the monitor simply broken before it could be used? Please help me.

You may have a dedicated graphics card in your PC.

Then you also need to connect the HDMI cable to this graphics card and not to the HDMI of the motherboard…

If so, you can expand it for testing or disable it in the BIOS and use the output at the MB.

is the other end of the HDMi cable also in the graphics card?

You can’t connect the screen to the mainboard (where all other devices are connected) but you have to connect it down to a port of the graphics card.

So the HDMI is on the motherboard or on the lower dedicated graphics card?
