PC broken, Office and Windows license?

Good morning,

I have a PC where Windows is no longer running. The problem is that it has an Office license on it (not tied to a Microsoft account, only locally). Can I deactivate this license and read the key via the console? The same issue applies to the Windows license.

  • On your computer should be a sticker Microsoft Product Key if not the Product Key can also be read out by Bios.
  • You don’t have to activate the Office version when it’s Office365, only when buying a one-time. You should have got a key. Just reactivate.

If the computer is still good, you can request a new one.

Volume license: Turn to the admin of the license. Good luck!
OEM license: Nö. The license also lives with a loss of hardware.
Reatil license: No problem – but in this case you should know the license key and do not have to “research” it.

… why do you think that would do something?

In Germany, there is an important court judgment of the Bundesgerichtshof (BGH), which states that the binding of OEM software to the hardware is inadmissible. This means that OEM licenses are not necessarily bound to the original computer and can be transferred to another computer.

The judgment was dated 6 July 2000 (Az. I ZR 244/97) and allows OEM products to be purchased and used without the associated hardware. This means that you can activate an OEM license on another computer as long as you have purchased the license from a trusted dealer.

That’s so wrong.
It’s about an operating system not necessarily being sold with the hardware. That’s a difference.

Otherwise: Have fun with an international court dispute of a US company. It’ll cost a lot of money and get nix. 🤷

– And?
This is one of the 3 license models.
You don’t give any information about what a license you have – in so far this verbal rumgeeiere does not do anything. 🤷
