Packstation redirection without notification?

I have the following problem.
For years, I've been having my items, some of which I buy from private individuals, delivered to my Packstation. Recently, I had a case where the salesperson contacted me and the shipment came back with the note that I hadn't picked it up from the store (it was redirected to a store). Which wouldn't have been a problem if I'd received some kind of notification—in the app, by email, or somewhere else. So I wrote to another salesperson, whose shipment had also been on its way for a while, asking if she could get in touch as soon as it was returned. Unfortunately, she hadn't even written down her address, so the shipment never reached either of us.
But normally you get notified if it can't be delivered to the packing station and I can pick it up somewhere else, right?
Now, every time a shipment takes longer, I'm worried that I'll just get nothing. But I can't just keep running to the store on a whim.

Can I just call there if I have any sending number and specifically looking for a show or is this general I call my name and ask if there is a problem with a show? for example in the case of a consignment?
