Ordered a Qwerty instead of a Qwertz keyboard?

Hey, I accidentally ordered a qwerty keyboard instead of a qwertz one. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this until after it had already been shipped.

I know the layout is different (y and z) are distorted and ä ö ü are missing.

Would you say it's so bad that I should send it back, which I honestly don't want to do since it's imported, which makes the whole thing a bit more durable as far as refunds go.

Do you have any experience with switching from a qwertz to a qwerty keyboard? Would you recommend that I return it? Or should I just deal with it.

  • If you program or work on the command line: the characters \/[]{}@ are easily accessible on QWERTY.
  • Ctrl-Z/X/C/V are located directly next to each other in the US layout. That’s no coincidence!
  • Under Unix you can place aeöüß (and much more) where you like the characters (I put them on r-alt a/o/u/s). On Windows you need an external program (AutoHotkey?)
  • The US layout has a button less (left from Z). When over-gluing the U.S. buttons, you are missing <, > and |.
  • The Enter key (US) is single-line and wider, the Return key (DE) has double height, but is narrower. This can be quite annoying when you’re used to a version.

Conclusion: If you want to program a lot or configure your personal keyboard layout, keep the part. If you predominantly edit German texts in MS-Word, the transition is probably too expensive. Then get rid of this thing.

But decide early: For unused, original-packed new products, you would have to be able to get your money back in the country. The price is already drastic at “used”.

Use remote sales law and exchange the goods.

Of course, you could also reconcile yourself, use another driver and glue the buttons. But in the end, you’ll be annoyed for years.

Having to write a lot of German with a QWERTY keyboard can be cumbersome. – If possible, cancel the purchase.
If too late, send them back and then order the QWERTZ keyboard.

Hello,

If you’re good in the keyboard, you can keep the keyboard. You already know the occupancy of the keys. You can adjust this so that it is like a QWERTZ keyboard. Goes in Windows with one click.

The keys are available, they are only labeled differently. If you catch them on the computer, you can still use them quite normally. Because the key is controlled by the operating system.

It depends primarily on yourself as well as on the intended use and whether you can arrange yourself with a keyboard without relaunching. The differences are not serious now and you can also write the umlaute otherwise.

With me, it’s exactly the reverse. Say my current MBP with QWERTZ keyboard has ordered, but next time will switch to QWERTY. It’s up to you and you need to know if you’re changing your keyboard or not.

Well, cancel the order immediately if it is still possible.

But definitely back.

Because it doesn’t start.

Should report as early as possible. This is what all online retailers demand to save unnecessary ways.
