Open enclosure for bearded dragons?

Hello!

I'd like to know if it's possible to keep bearded dragons in an open enclosure, similar to a turtle terrarium (i.e., a large, low-ceilinged aquarium). If so, I would have it specially constructed with ventilation built into the side wall for air circulation. I've seen that turtle enclosures often don't have this.

Now the question is, is the open roof a problem? The lights would hang freely from above into the enclosure, which would also provide constant spot temperatures. When ventilating, I would always cover the enclosure anyway, to prevent drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations. Incidentally, the side walls are designed to be high enough so that the bearded guinea pig can't climb out.

I look forward to your clarification! If you have other ideas, please let me know 🙂

Hello

No, you have to imitate the Australian steppe here, with very high temperatures in places, many climate zones and extremely high brightness.

Even though bearded dragons are often considered to be ideal for beginners, they are actually quite expensive and demanding animals that just suffer for a very long time and still reproduce.

You can build an enclosed enclosure outside for the summer, but indoors they belong in a very spacious, enclosed terrarium.

If you are interested, please click through here, because unfortunately there is a lot of rubbish on the Internet and in some books:

http://www.bartagamen.keppers.de/aufnahme.html

Important:

  • Bearded dragons are strict loners , especially at the beginning only get one animal
  • Terrarium for ONE animal FROM 150x80x80, good keeping starts from 200x80x100 (also applies to young animals)
  • A quarantine terrarium must be available and quarantine must be maintained after purchase, including examination of fecal samples (regardless of whether this has already been done by the seller and even if it is only for one animal!)
  • Lamps must be equipped with an external ballast , such as a Solar Raptor or Reptiles Expert. This is the only way to ensure sufficient brightness and a good UV supply.
  • For shadow lightening T5 tubes with daylight spectrum
  • A rough, stony back wall with plenty of lying areas belongs in every terrarium
  • Hard, diggable soil , 10-20cm high (sand-clay mixture)
  • Collect greens from outside ! Buy as little as possible, and eat hardly any vegetables or fruit .
  • Live food should be kept healthy and well. Young animals should receive live food daily, while adults should only receive live food every 7-14 days.

As I said, take your time clicking through the link and please never get information from places where money changes hands. Pet shops usually have completely unsuitable lamps and much too small terrariums, which they want to sell.

No, that’s not possible, and you couldn’t keep the temperature at all in an open terrarium, logically.

I had two bartagames and both walked around in my apartment. If they have become too cold, they are warmed up into their terrarium.

This is abslout keien good attitude. It shows how suboptimal it is for these animals in the apartment.

Terraristics is not just an animal to keep, but to reflect the habitat of an exotic. If they do not need several 100-1000 euros for lamps, floor, rear walls, climate zones, etc.

Believe me, I’m fine.

Besides, just go in at night, or you’ll be out there voluntarily.

Then you shouldn’t keep a bartagame, you know how much freewheel you need?

It should not be kept for animals if one is not prepared to implement the needs of the animals;) You don’t feel comfortable in the living room. Here is explained in fact with facts: http://www.bartagamen.keppers.de/Auslauf.html

You can of course offer the place with a pure room terrace;) But definitv not easy in the apartment!
