Buy an Opel Astra with 190,000 km on the clock?

Good morning,

The car is from 2006 and has about 190,000 kilometers on it. It's an Opel Astra GTC 1.6l (petrol engine).

It's also been serviced according to the service history. Should you consider buying it?

Hello!

Technically, the Astra-H is fine and had already overcome his childhood diseases in 2006, he is not a ruster. Important: Tooth belt and water pump! Both old Opel stations, both not expensive to change, but all the more expensive when it breaks and consequential damages come.

If the car is a checkbook, not too many pre-owners, is in the age-related good care condition with good tires and brakes etc. and is received original, you can think about buying well. It is a claimless car, inexpensive in maintenance, just “Opel – the Reliable”. Unfortunately, the workmanship in the interior is not particularly sturdy, for this the engine and manual and full automatic transmission are good (the Easytronic is crap and not recommended).

2500 Euros are honestly fair with new TÜV – the Astra-H is still in demand because it is good to recommend a very popular car even for beginners for whom it is highly recommended thanks to its lamm-from-the-range driving behavior and its lack of entitlement, and if everything fits, why not. I would negotiate, something is always going – or you should arrange the change of toothed belts, tension roller and water pump if you still stand out for 2500 euros plus new TÜV. There can’t go much wrong, 190000 Km are average for a 13 year old car. Every interested person should be aware that such cars are not to be fished for 500 euros, even the typical gravel-field Ali already pays more for such “old irons” in purchasing and then wants to have for it around the 2000 euros.

In general, the Opels have always been better than their reputation, I have also liked to drive Opel (Omega) and can neither speak negatively about the brand nor about spare parts prices, etc. Are real working animals for everyday life!

A lot of success – but I would take someone to visit because four eyes see more than two.

Such a car is interesting under the following circumstances:

  • good care condition, all inspections made, no repair store (require beforehand about the occurrences of the great, expensive wear repairs – toothed belt change etc.)
  • You can fix things on the car yourself and are not dependent on an expensive workshop on every defect (in the case of an already so much run car, something can always break, even if the general condition is good).

If that doesn’t happen to both, finger away. Better for a little more money buy a younger, less run car. This is usually cheaper in the longer term.

Should we think about a purchase?

For me there is no reason to do this, but if you are looking for a cheap car and the Astra generally meets your needs, you can do that. As always, it is also a price question whether the afterthinking is worthwhile.

Depends on what it costs.

I would not pay more than 500€ for him, so practically drive a bit and then throw away.

At 190.000 km and 13 years, 2500 euros are completely overpriced.

If it is the 1.6 with 115 hp: Ensure that the toothed belt has been changed (at 150’000).

The engine is otherwise a pretty iron pig. The car in itself is not so the bringer but a cheaply entertained used car and I wouldn’t worry about the engine.

the engine will disappoint you, is too weak for the body.

Too expensive. Did you pass your license by now???

You should ask if the previous owner with the car has frequently travelled long distance and whether he has driven the car reasonably warm and cold. Because if you don’t, then it’s the one that’s shredded. And even if yes, 2500€ is too much.
