No more files on CD even though the storage is full?
Hello, I was accused of a "political" crime (blah blah, long story). The police took all the data storage devices from my apartment, including a CD with old photos of me and my family on it. After I got the data storage devices back after the investigation, I noticed that the CD with my private photos no longer contained any files, even though the storage space on the CD was full. When I got the data storage devices back, the police even asked me about some of the people in the pictures on the CD, so I'm sure the CD was still in working order up until then. But as I said, after I got the CD back, I couldn't see anything, even though the storage space was full. Can anything be salvaged?
CDs close as well as other disks. With CDs this also has to do with it storage! We have a small collection of pretty bug-tolerant drives and in such cases use software that left a CD in several passages and then tries to fill any gaps…
You can get different CD and DVD drives and try to read one of them. Then secure the data as soon as possible.
You can also try to clone the CD with data recovery tools like DMDE. You’ll get a bit of a copy.
PS.: With us a data recovery costs EUR 79 in the event of success.
The thing is that the CD has no scratches or Not damaged.
And what would it cost if it wasn’t successful?
So what? There are many other problems such as chemical processes that add to the CD. Light that makes the plastic yellow, etc.
This applies, by the way, to all data carriers. You can also not leave SSD or hard drive lying around for years.
In the IT-Forensics area, this is a big problem when court proceedings are rolled up after zig years and one is to look at the old disks and suddenly data is damaged.
With SSDs and hard drives it is the fading of the load (electrical or mangnetic) and with CDs, DVDs and BluRays it is still other factors.
As I said, the price would be EUR 79 in success.
To use the CDBurnerXP program, please install it on your PC and insert a CD. Then open the program, click “copy or save medium” on “OK” and set “ISO” as file type. By clicking on the Copy medium button, you can start creating the ISO file.

You can drag an ISO image and then see if there is anything, otherwise: lost
What is an ISO image? Where do I get it from?
Create ISO image on Windows – so it’s (heise.de)
Try to clean the CD with toothpaste. The trial costs nix. I used to save some CDs.
That’s the thing on the CD are not scratches
