In a cell, there are chemical reactions that release energy (exergonic reactions) and those that require energy (endergonic reactions). So, can someone describe the energetic relationship between catabolic and anabolic metabolism?
But does this description even fit this picture?:
An exergonic reaction delivers energy in the form of work; the substance subsequently has less energy, meaning it is at a lower level. This is the case, for example, with a reaction from A to B. In an endergonic reaction, the opposite is true: it must absorb energy.
This energy is used to increase the energy of another system—in this case, the reaction of ADP plus phosphate to form ATP. ATP is therefore more energetic. If ATP reacts exergonicly to form ADP again, then C to D can again proceed endergonic. However, every exergonic reaction also releases some heat, so the total energy released from A to B cannot ultimately be transferred from C to D.
that's going in the right direction. The truck is the ATP and connects exergonic reactions with endergonic. This is called energetic coupling.
There are reactions that voluntarily proceed under the release of energy, which are called exergonic, on the left, the degradation of nutrient molecules.
On the other hand, there are metabolic reactions that require energy for their discharge. They are called endergonic, on the right, building material metabolism, biosynthesis, movement or transport processes. These reactions or processes are not voluntary without energy supply.
The cell now mediates between both sides. The truck. Could be replaced by "ATP".
Substances such as the truck (ATP) can store chemical energy which is partially released during their splitting. The division of ATP is exergonic.
Thus, with exergonic reactions (left), the endergonic construction of ATP (loading of the truck with energy) can be coupled.
When the ATP column (exergonic, the unloading of the truck) is coupled to another endergonic process (right), so that the overall process is voluntary, it has been achieved that the endergonic reaction (right) is driven via the loading of the truck (synthesis of ATP).
The truck (ATP) serves as an energy-absorbing and providing agent between both reaction types (exergon left, endergon right). This is the energetic coupling. A principle universally applicable in metabolism. LG
