neck pain, what helps?

Hey, I've had terrible neck pain since yesterday evening. I've had a raised temperature on and off since Saturday. I went to see my doctor today; she said it's a viral infection. I should just let it heal. I asked her if heat would help or if I should take antibiotics. She said no, and that heat helped. I warmed a cherry stone pillow and used a heat pad, which really helped. It's already better, but I'm afraid it'll get worse again.

What else could help? Baths? Those heat pads from the pharmacy?

Or should I still go to the orthopedist?

Hello, first of all I wish you good improvement. With a cherry kernel cushion, you're certainly on the right track. I know that, I have a lot of neck pain. What also helps very well are stretching exercises. For trouble, if the pain is too strong, I would recommend taking a painkiller.
