Make an aqueous solution by desting a spatula tip of the salt in a few milliliters. Water dissolves. Then add a drop of silver nitrate solution (about 5%). NaCl produces a white precipitate of sparingly soluble silver chloride. A precipitation reaction remains in the chlorate.

Theoretically correct, but problematic in practice, because there is hardly any chloride-free sodium chlorate (except p.a. product) due to the preparation process. You also forgot acidification with nitric acid.

Look at the crystals with a strong magnifying glass, sodium chloride forms dice.
