My external hard drive is not recognized?

Hi guys, I bought a hard drive a long time ago. I used it to play on the PS4 and then my dad used it on his MacBook and iMac. Now I've bought a gaming PC and the hard drive isn't working properly. It's not the brand of the hard drive (WD ELEMENT).

This is probably because the hard drive is no longer compatible with Windows after it has been used in a Mac system. You can first check if your hard drive continues to work with a Mac. If so, try this on your PC.

  • Updating data carrier drivers
  • Format hard drive in NTFS
  • Create a new volume on the unallocated partition

Why isn’t my hard drive detected?

If you have the option, put it on the MacBook and the iMac to see if it still works there. I’ve had it a few times that the controllers were broken after a few years. Then I broke the plastic case (slow and cautious), made the hard drive out and installed in another external hard drive case I bought. Then I could access the data again.

Tell me if you know new ones.

Probably it is formatted for macOS. Windows cannot read that.
If there are no important data on it, format NTFS.
