My dog died and I don't know what to do?
Unfortunately, my dog was put down today at the age of 15, and the other dog we have lived with him his entire life. You can tell he's become depressed because he just lies in his basket. What can I do to make him feel better?
Ps: the other dog is 12 and has arthritis
First of all, I am very sorry that you lost your dog. I can understand that very well. Unfortunately, I have also had to accompany some of my dogs on their final journey.
Regarding the second dog, I would offer him closeness, shared suffering is half the suffering and I can well imagine that it will do him good if he realizes that you are there for him and vice versa.
Maybe you could just sit next to him and stroke him a bit. That could calm him down as well as you. It won't take away the pain but it will comfort you a little and that will certainly be helpful for both of you.
Give yourself a big hug!
I'm sending you both lots of strength in my thoughts during this difficult time. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to your dog.
You should let your other dog grieve for a few days. Try to encourage him from time to time with something (food and activities) and keep him busy.
My condolences, unfortunately I know this situation only too well.
Yes, your other dog certainly misses his companion, but dogs handle things a little differently than we humans. Be there for him when he comes, sit with him for a while; that might help you too. But he'll return to his normal routine in a few days; that's what I've experienced myself.
I wish you strength for the coming period. All the best to you.
