Do suggested appointment times for job interviews have to be accepted?

Hello,

I wanted to test my market value and possibly look for a new position. For this reason, I applied to an institution. First of all, skilled workers in this field are generally hard to come by, and I have good conditions.

I initially asked if the position was still available, as it had been open for a long time. There was no response. After I applied, the lady called me and asked when I was available. Unfortunately, she didn't even let me finish my sentence and instead offered me two short-notice appointment times. Since I have a caregiver at home, I couldn't accept on such short notice and suggested other dates. She said she'd get back to me, but of course, there was no response.

I'm a bit shocked and offended. As long as the position remains open, applicants don't seem to be coming for it. I've also lost interest in the company. Does that mean I have to accept every appointment?

Best regards

As everywhere in life: There is no yes or no. In your case, it did not fit; You may have more success when you call next week. It would be possible that someone else will be on the phone and everything will be relaxed.

Is that how I have to accept every appointment?

No, you don’t.

But appointment suggestions must also be clarified first and that this may happen on a Friday. not always possible is a fact.

In this respect… I think you interpret too much in here.

You don’t have to. But as it is everywhere, people are sitting at the other end. You just forgot it or you’re just someone who cares about it.

Either way, you don’t have to, but you don’t have a claim to an alternative date.

In principle, you are not obliged to do anything, especially if you apply from a safe position. Many companies do not even look for ads at all, but instead they either show that it is good for the company or to put their own staff under pressure. Companies that have a real interest try to set dates so that as many interested parties as possible have time. Just relax and tap it as an experience. Now you know why the place is so long unoccupied.
