Do you have to eat for 2 when pregnant?

Most people I know binge on it without end and gain up to 30 kilos. I eat smaller meals more often and try to get most of my energy from vegetables, eat few carbohydrates, and avoid sweets completely. I don't feel hungry; I feel pleasantly full. But I have to listen to people explaining why I'm so careful about it during pregnancy. I don't think you have to eat for two? I've never heard that you should eat a lot either.

No, especially since an embryo does not eat food for a 2. Person needs πŸ˜‰

It should be clear that you have a slightly higher energy requirement.

It doesn’t matter, “You have to eat for two now.” Pregnants only need between 250 and 500 kcal more per day, and this is not in the form of calorie bombs, because it is a healthy, balanced diet before and during pregnancy important for growth and development of the fetus.

The increase in weight in pregnancy is based on the initial weight. An American institute has broken down the optimal weight gain with regard to the body mass index (BMI) of the woman before pregnancy:

BMI before pregnancy under 18.5 = 12.7 to 18.1 kg

BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 = 11.3 to 15.9 kg

BMI between 25 and 29.9 = 6.8 to 11.3 kg

and BMI over 30 maximum 9 kg.

Happy for you and a healthy pregnancy!

I don’t think you have to eat for two.

Right – and you shouldn’t do that – however, you shouldn’t get any extra calories if you have appetite for something.

Fact is: Becoming mothers need only about ten percent more calories per day than before pregnancy. This additional need just corresponds to a fruit vegetable or cheese bread with an apple.

This means weight gain in pregnancy:

  • BMI under 18.5 (underweight): increase of 12 to 18 kilograms
  • BMI 18.5 to 25 (normal weight): increase of 11 to 16 kilograms

You should eat a little more during pregnancy than normal. As far as correct. But definitely not for two.

Your female doctor already has an eye on your weight and will tell you if you don’t. As long as it doesn’t happen, you’re doing everything right.

So I’ve been in a direct environment. The woman has sometimes been hungry, but not always and sometimes less. She now had 6 kg more after birth than before pregnancy. She has always been told that you don’t have to eat for two, but healthy people should listen to her feeling. So if you have no eating disorder in any direction, your feeling of hunger actually tells you when and how much you should eat.

Not exactly but would say for 1.25 people. So a whole (for yourself) and for a quarter person) now only from quantity.

If you’re tired, it’s all right, or just ask your doctor.

Well, she’s already eating for two in pregnancy. That doesn’t mean she has to feed twice the amount. It is important to eat healthy, rich in nutrients and vitamins, and that we leave tormenting foods. To eat beyond the feeling of saturation, just because you’re pregnant, is nonsense. But it is quite possible to give in some whistles as long as they do not harm the child (such as alcohol and nicotine).
