As a pure worker, you are not obligated.

But if you worked for 7 months: did you receive compensation for the rest of the year (e.g. unemployment benefit I, short-time work, etc.)?

For example, you would be obliged to pay if the amount is over 410€ per year.

What happens if you don’t give a tax return?

Unless you are obligated to: Nothing.

You’ll be appreciated when you get paid. The data such as wages, KV/PV etc. and also possible wage replacements are available electronically to the FA.

Do you have to pay tax returns in Germany if you only worked 7 months?

That’s not why.

If, before or after, however, unemployment benefit/sickness/insolvency allowance, etc., then yes

The basic obligation to issue the tax return iSd §§25 and 46 EStG and 56 EStDV is as follows:

  • Benefits over 410€ (parent money, short-time work, sick pay etc pp.)
  • Earnings without tax deduction over 410€
  • Job in tax class 6
  • Precautionary package higher than actual values (up to 2023 included)
  • If tax class combination 3/5 and both pay receive
  • If allowances are entered in the ElStAM
  • if you so. 5th rule was applied (disclosures)
  • When marriage ends and a new one is closed in the same year
  • there is a loss report
  • capital income without tax deduction
  • There is a call from the tax office

New from 2024 :

  • Equipped KV/PV Contributions over 410€

If you do not surrender, it can happen that the tax bases are estimated, this is usually worse than reality. Don’t make a commitment, nothing happens.

If you have no obligation to pay. However, if you have received, for example, ALG1 or sick pay, etc., you are obliged to give one.

If you don’t give off, one will be set to your disadvantage and there are fines.

Often there’s money back if you didn’t work all year, you’re giving it away.

You don’t have much money, you’re not obligated.
