Motorschaden nach Werkstatt muss ich zahlen?

Ich habe mein Auto für ein neues Thermostat in die Werkstatt gebracht. Da wechseln die das Thermostat und selbstverständlich auch das Kühlmittel
Als ich den Wagen abgeholt habe, ging auf der Autobahn die Motorkontrollleuchte an. Ich heruntergefahren, der Motor war am kochen und ich sehe, dass das komplette Kühlmittel weg war. Anscheinend habe ich das während der Fahrt verloren und bin dann schön ohne Kühlmittel gefahren.
Muss die Werkstatt für den Schaden aufkommen? Auf dem Thermostat und dessen Wechsel ist natürlich Garantie aber was ist, wenn ich dadurch jetzt einen tieferen Motorschaden bekommen habe?
der ADAC hatte nur einen Abschlepper geschickt, deshalb wurde kein Protokoll aufgenommen und ich weiß auch nicht ob und welcher weitere schaden entstanden ist. Die Motorkontrollleuchte leuchtet auf jeden fall immer noch.
