Motorradim winter fahren?
Well. Salt on the street hurts the bike. Deep temperatures cool out that not only makes you sick, but also extends your reaction time.
So it is not completely unfounded what it does, but I also think it is a somewhat excessive overreaction. You can drive in winter as long as the roads are free of snow/ice.
Winter greetings 😉
I would say that the risk of being involved in a weather-related accident in winter (e.g. fall due to ice smoothness, snow, wet etc.), is only insignificantly higher than in the rest of the year, as long as you don’t drive motorbikes if snow and ice lie on the streets effectively. If the roads are dry, you can also drive safely at low temperatures. Apart from this, the winters have been very mild in recent years up to a few exceptions, partly almost springy, so that snow and ice are more likely to be in elevated locations, e.g. in middle mountains or in the Alps.
I’m looking at the weather report. If the minimum temperature is above zero on a day, there is no reason to do without the motorcycle. If it is zero or below, you need to check if the roads are dry or at least black/saved. If so, then the danger is quite small.
It becomes more difficult in rural areas, on roads with limited or no winter service, especially in shady places, e.g. in the woods, it may happen that a deserted road surface is barely ingested during the day, and there is an increased risk of falling.
In general, I advise to slow down in wet roads or otherwise not so good winter road conditions, not to speed up quickly or to slow down abruptly. Most of the tires have less grip in cold, especially tires with a hard rubber mixture that have a higher running performance.
Wearing protective clothing and with protectors and boots also helps. However, you must also be aware that if you fly from the motorcycle to the hard road surface with more than 50km/h, the risk of bone fracture is quite high despite protective clothing. I’m talking from experience. Therefore, in case of doubt, leave the motorcycle at home. But if the temperatures are between 5 and 10 degrees on a day, there is no reason at all to not drive even if there is just a winter month.
Also on “good” days, the grip is bad due to the low temperatures and the dirt on the streets.
In addition, the drivers pay much less attention to motorcyclists.
