Buy a motorcycle to travel in the USA?

Hello

I'm currently planning a road trip through the US and wanted to buy a motorcycle locally to use for the trip. My question is whether I can buy a motorcycle directly with insurance without having to re-register it in my name. If you need information yourself or can share information, feel free to join my Telegram group.
Thank you in advance.

Moin, maybe I can help you. We are currently building a US company that will offer exactly this service. That is to give you the opportunity to buy a motorcycle in the USA (Arizona), then use it for your tour and then sell it again. This saves the extremely high costs. We will also help you with the registration of the vehicle on your name and the completion of a regular insurance. The overall offer includes the entire support regarding implementation at the end.

HalliHallo

I’m very interested!

It is not quite certain that I will make such a trip, but it is a great desire to buy a motorcycle in America, and so to explore the country for a few months. After that, I would want to sell the good part again. I’m just about to collect first information and see which hurdles are putting themselves in this way.

Would you like to give me more information about the service you offer?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Sheriff110

How does it look with the possibility to buy a motorcycle in the USA (Arizona)… We have interest, can you still help us?

In most states, you need a local driver’s license to register a vehicle. To get this, you need a message address there.

In some states, there is also the possibility to drive a few weeks with a trade mark. But then you are only insured for the absolute (not sufficient) minimum, of which I would advise.

If you want to make a longer USA trip, I would advise you to set up a Ltd. in Montana and to register the moped. Your motorcycle must never be presented in Montana. The whole also has the advantage that the tax on vehicles is not levied in the state where you buy them, but in where they are registered/registered. And this is 0% in Montana, which can mean a big difference.

This allows you to establish a Ltd. in Montana for 998 USD, without being present and then also registering vehicles.

Of course, you can also rent an apartment in California, then register with the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and make a Californian driving license. Then you could register a moped. The driver’s license is very simple – but cheaper it is not guaranteed at the end. It becomes only considerably more effort.
Many (not all !) dealers offer a 90-day “temporary registration”, but during which they must apply for permanent registration. This would then be rejected due to the lack of a report address. If you don’t want to be on the road for more than 90 days, that’s what’s going on – but the insurance is really inadequate and the whole thing can go into the pants.
The most sensible way is still over a Ltd. in Montana. Visitor.us also perform the entire registration frame for you and then simply send the license plate to the dealer.

This is described for automobiles, but this also applies to motorcycles:

For travellers staying in the USA for more than 8 weeks, the purchase of a vehicle may be more sensible than the rental of such a vehicle. However, the purchase – and later sale – offers considerable greater and less determined calculable risks than would be the case with a rental vehicle. Technically necessary for the purchase and sale of a car:

Look here.

It seems a little different in every federal state. Various states allow the issue of a U.S. mark only to persons residing in the USA. You can see if there are exceptions on the above page. There may be companies specializing in allowing privately purchased vehicles abroad for a limited period of time (the company would then be holders of the control panel).

If you continue to reside in DE, you would otherwise have to attach a German mark to the motorcycle purchased in the USA and cancel a German liability insurance. If you would still want to drive this motorcycle later in Germany, customs import fees would probably be due. Evt. would you have to ask the motor traffic office whether or not this is possible. The easiest and most convenient is if you know someone residing in the USA who redeems the vehicle on its name, but enters you in the insurance policy as the (most common) handlebar.

As it looks, this company (visitor.us) makes exactly what I wrote above. It is probably not the only provider in this area. It’s probably worth comparing prices.

Visitor.us offers the opportunity to establish a Ltd. in Montana, which can then be registered for vehicles. That sounds expensive with 998 dollars, but you don’t pay for car tax in Montana, you don’t have to be present and you never get to Montana with the vehicle. The bottom line is cheaper than any other solution if you want to be on the road for longer.
