How do I find out the engine number if the engine has already been removed?
Engine failure, replacement engine supposedly installed. How can I check if I don't have the engine number for the old model? New parts like the timing belt and water pump were replaced on my old one, so it's difficult to tell whether it's the old or replacement engine. VW only has the engine code, which I have myself.
There are a few numbers on the bottom right of the letter, but it doesn't seem to be the engine number.
The car is still in the workshop, but we're busy, so I can't ask. How can I find out if it's a replacement engine or my old one, just overhauled? Thanks. VW supposedly only has the engine code, which I have myself. The car is a 2004 Golf V.

At VW I had previously called mti the vehicle identification number, that would be at engine number BCA, but that’s just the code. That’s what they said.
