Do most Albanians like Turkish culture very much because of the Ottomans?

Many Albanians have Turkish names that are spelled slightly differently and like Turkish culture very much. Is it because of the Ottomans?

Over a million people of Albanian descent live in Turkey. This is already a strong connection.

Otherwise, I would rather remain that the positive opinions of the Albanians are related to this development:

Over the past few years, Turkey has been heavily involved in areas such as investment, education, art and culture and earthquake aid. How is this engagement perceived in the country and how close are the Turkish-Albanian relations after all the involuntary interruptions of the 20. Century?

Yes, it is true that since 2013, relations between Turkey and Albania have experienced a significant upturn under the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, up to the 6th Agreement. January 2021, in which the Strategic Cooperation Council was signed at a high level between the two countries. Already in the time of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a treaty on eternal friendship was signed between the two countries, which had also existed during the communist regime in Albania.

This relationship was also continued among the prime ministers Demirel, Turgut Ozal, Tansu Çiller, Ecevit and Erbakan. Under the reign of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, this relationship has established itself in a level of Turkish investment in Albania of 3.5 billion US dollars, 600 companies and 15,000 employees. In addition, Turkey donated 520 apartments for the earthquake victims, a regional hospital in the city of Fier and a million vaccines for use against the Covid pandemic.

All these relations, which are perceived as an expression of ‘breeding’, have increased the sympathy of the Albanian population for the Turkish government and for the Turkish people and Turkish culture. Surveys of Western non-governmental organisations in Albania have shown that the appreciation for Turkey has increased more than the appreciation for the USA and the EU.

So most Albanians never try to balance their culture with Turkish culture or other cultures or to compare it well that one admits that there are cultural similarities.

In addition, Albanians in the majority do not like Turkish culture, especially the cousin-ehe, which is common in Turkish culture is despicable the Albanians are deeply abhorred and we are regarded as a mortal sin. One is well friends with Turks because Turkey supports the Albanians but the Ottoman Empire is mostly not loved except for a few pro-Osman Albanians because it is considered an imperialist empire that the Albanians have finally resigned to the rivals, which led to the division of the Albanian people, although the Albanians have helped the Turks a lot than Janitscharen or Pashas and Wesire in the Empire.

The Albanians feel their culture as old-Ilyrian with external influences of Rome – Byzantium – Ottomans and sees themselves as an autoconic people of the Balkans because the origin of the Albanian lies in antiquity like the Greeks, which originated from the Hellenes not from settled peoples like Southern Slavs – Turks.

In addition, your statement is incorrect with regard to Turkish name there are certainly some of the Turkish origins but most of the names were also taken over by the Turks from Umar (Arabic) became Ömer (Turkish) to Imer (Albanian).

In conclusion, one can say that the opinions are mixed the majority sees the Turks as allies and friends the religious as brothers for Islam and the nationalists say the Turks are negative because of the old history and see Turkey as negative influences on their societies and culture.

Must have something to do with it. After all, Albania was part of the Ottoman Empire

These names are very rare. There are also ethnic Turks living in Kosovo or Roma etc.

In my village, both motherly and fatherly, I don’t know a single one that has such a name except Bayram. Albanians generally have Albanian names or then Arabic with Albanian spelling or, depending on religion, also Greek names.

Dawla Uthmaniyya were not Turks but an Islamic Khilafah. It is true that there is a Turkish beginning and appears at the end of nationalism, but the Ottomans have called it abhorrent Turks and they were only forgiven over ethnically speaking. Even many Sultans, if not most, it was forbidden to marry a Turkish woman.

The answer is therefore: No. They conquered the area and over time the majority took Islam.
