Model railway with Styrofoam?

I'm building a model railway layout and I'm using mostly Styrofoam. The tracks would also mostly sit on the Styrofoam, except for the ramps, where I'd use wood. Are there anyone who knows about this and can tell me if this is possible? I would then add papier-mâché to the scenery, and then attach the tracks to it.

I have seen some people build the entire track on wooden tracks.

At least the trays should have a really stable background. The whole should also rest on a stable foundation/frame, which also supports the entire trassing. For terrain etc. you can use polystyrene, although the (more expensive) polystyrene allows finer structures and better working.

I also recommend Styrodur! Better to work, very stable and "cuffs" not when drilling or sawing.

Styro por vs. dur? Both of them. As a substructure, I would create a frame construction with undercarriages. It is possible to work well with both materials. Wood glue goes to glue. Track trains should be well planned and the web dams from .-por are best cut with a hot resistance wire. The cut surfaces are quite smooth. .-dur can also be cut clean with fine sharp knives such as scalpels. Buildings can then be placed on corresponding barrier-hol surfaces and modeled with both types of polystyrene. The same applies to roads, roads, meadows, forest or mountains. Colors can also be stirred into wood glue and they have a high adhesion on the substrate. I wouldn't take solvent-containing colors. They at least dissolve the .-por on or on. At .-dur you have to test this yourself. Fine modeling machines such as Parksite, Dremel or Proxxon can be used for processing both styros.

I think polystyrene plates would be better, more stable.

Styrofoam and Styrodur become more surface-hardened when applied with acrylic wall colors. You can then move the tracks well, but: unfortunately you cannot screw them. Therefore, plywood or even commercially available subcomponents are better.

At that time I had built everything on wooden constructions. The terrain with mountains with linen cloths I immersed in plaster.

I would build the same material under the tracks in order to achieve a more uniform driving noise.
