Mini job vs. midi job – which is cheaper?

I'm a student (working) at the university as a student assistant. I'd like to earn approximately €520 a month. Therefore, I'd like to know if it's cheaper for me to have a mini-job (€520) or a midi-job (€521)? I was told at the university that a mini-job is usually cheaper. But I'm a special case:

  • I am an EU foreigner.
  • I pay for health insurance abroad
  • I do not receive BAföG
  • I do not pay 3.6% pension insurance (for mini-jobs).

Here I found out that I can have a full pension insurance period credited for just a few cents (although with the mini-job you pay considerably more (around 19 euros) and only a third of the time is credited).

Have I overlooked something or would the midi job really be significantly cheaper for me?

Of course, midi job with eg 521€ per month. Gross wage for you cheaper: for not even 30 you are fully socially insured, ie pension, health care and unemployment insurance incl.

No – the reason is quite easy to explain: the midijob employer must pay a lot of levies over the minijob!
