Minecraft server crashed?
I hosted a Minecraft server on my Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB of RAM. However, it crashed under load. There were no error messages, I couldn't type anything into the terminal, and I couldn't establish an SSH connection… Everything just froze…
However, this only happens under load, so you can join and play, but as soon as you load too many chunks too quickly it crashes.
Operating system is Ubuntu Server and Minecraft version is Paper 1.20.4.
4GB RAM is far too short for that. This quickly hits the power limits, which also ensures a crash. It is recommended to use the Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB RAM. As an operating system I recommend Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64bit (this is without desktop) This is also smaller than Ubuntu Server.
Then I would install the Minecraft server like this: https://marc.tv/minecraft-java-raspberry-pi-docker/
Ne Raspi is now also net intended to host Minecraft Server.
In addition, Ubuntu is also intended to run on a Raspi, as the Official Lite Image would be much better.
Enter a Ram Limiter for your Minecraft server or buy an older Office Pc that is also suitable for this.
4GB for 1.20 is difficult. At 1.8 there was still 1.20 bangs a lot of RAM away
