Lactic acid is formed by lactic acid bacteria (from sugars). This is used, for example, for yogurt production. The lactose is converted into lactic acid.

However, lactic acid does not only occur in dairy products. This process is also used in the production of sour wort.

Difference in milk?

Lactic acid is a carboxylic acid which was first isolated from acidic milk. It is therefore a part of the milk and many other liquids.

One is a molecule (a carboxylic acid) that was first discovered in the milk and therefore got the name lactic acid. But it also plays a major role outside the milk in biology, the name has kept itself historical.

And milk is the liquid with which female mammals feed their descendants in their earliest life phase.

So the question is about how the question “what is the difference between a car and a motor”.
