Microphone is recognized but doesn't record anything?

Hello, I have the problem that my microphone is not recording any sound. It is recognized and on the picture you can see a small green bar which means that the microphone is recording sound but no matter if I scream my soul out or blow into it, it stays the same. I have tried all possible settings and it does not help. It could be the motherboard or that I do not have a sound card. I have connected it as usual to the microphone input at the back and have tried all the others too.

How can I fix this what would be most effective

Try Settings->System->Sound and since the microphone is able to switch on an additional microphone gain. Also, on the same page at the bottom “Next sound settings” to open the “old” dialog and then select the microphone and see if there is an option for additional microphone amplification in the Level tab.
